A recent MOT showed that my rear pads need changing and Inchcape have quoted me £467 + sensor £23.18 both plus VAT for supply and fitting, rear pads . This sounds very expensive, what does anyone suggest? An independent? I'm not brave enough to tackle it myself due to the EPB and other technical complications.

Could a mod please move this to the right section? Looks like I haven't woken up yet.

I was under the impression that the normal pads was the park brake pads on the l405??

Had mine changed at a main dealer a couple of weeks ago and it was around £300 inc VAT all in. MY23 D350 HSE

Parking brake pads are the rear brake pads sir... L405 have an electric motor on the side of the caliper

Well you live and learn. I just changed mine like any other pad, no ill effects and no hassle. letters not necessarily in the right order

Dixy, consider yourself VERY lucky sir! There are many stories of DIY customers breaking the electric motor by forcing back the piston with a Caliper wind back tool!

Luckily I was warned by friends in JLR dealers and in factory, back in the early days of L405 maintenance about this potential issue!

Maintenance mode is required, to prevent damage when replacing the pads

Out of interest, how clever are these calipers?

Can they be unplugged and wound back with a 12v supply? I've done a few EPB systems this way and reversed the polarity to put the brake back on after fitment. The car didn't know any different when the ignition was put back on. Current

ACTIVATION
CAUTION:
This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the parking brake system released.
NOTE:
This procedure allows the parking brake to be released when removing and installing new rear brake pads or brake discs.

Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.
Wait 2 seconds.
Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
Wait 2 seconds.
Turn the ignition Off and back On immediately.

NOTE:
An audible noise will be heard to confirm that the parking brake has been released in Service Mode.
Release the accelerator pedal and release the parking brake switch to the neutral position.

DEACTIVATION
CAUTIONS:
This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the parking brake system in Service Mode.

Once the rear brake pads or brake discs have been installed, the Service Mode must be cancelled.
Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.
Wait 2 seconds.
Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
Wait 2 seconds.
Turn the ignition Off and back On immediately.
