dont be too hard on me!

Ok, after seeing the pics of Daveo's brake callipers after he painted them i really liked the look and wanted to paint the hub and callipers on my range rover. Ever since i can remember i have always wanted red callipers so this project has killed two birds with one stone and i think that the red callipers looks really good through the wheels and with the java black paint.

The pics dont show the red very well but in the flesh they are very very red, nothing like pink - the camera flash makes it look a little pink

Looks a good job - not too keen on the red myself but a damn sight better than rust!

What paint did you use, what prep etc - obviously this could be transferred to a different colour of paint and others may find it useful!

I think it looks good, colour looks like the colour they put on Porsche calipers to me.

Certainly an improvement! 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Hi mate, prep was rubbing down with sand paper to remove the loose rust, wipe everything down with soap and water and left to dry. Mask up all the areas you dont want to get paint on. I used hammerite smooth silver for the hub and hammerite smooth red for the callipers. Took about 5 hours per wheel.

These are the pictures i took when i was doing the job.

Looks like a good job but wrong colour for me. On a sports car it has to be red but as the rangy has poor brakes for it's size it's not something to be highlighted. If they were 4pot brembo's they yep. That's brings be onto the brakes why do they have such poor brakes. My 350z had 4pot brembo's and were probably over sized but to have single piston brakes is poor in my opinion. It not like there bringing a micra to a hault, were trying to stop something weighting close to the moon!
But each to their own on colour choice.

not sure what you mean about the problem with the brakes i have always found that they are 'good enough' i have even tried the emergency brake assist and brake force distribution when a child ran out in front of me on a main road and i was traveling at 30mph and it stopped me dead in no time, in fact i even cut my neck on the seat belt when the seat belt tensioned lol

the brembos only came on the range rover when they up'ed the engine power and required more powerful braking force

I think pretty smart, colour choice is individual but mine also look tired and rusty and they are Brembo, albeit the standard ones. So I shall give it a go I think - I was daydreaming about just such today when taking the missus for a drive through the lake district. Yes we are burning fuel just for the fun of it like we did thirty years ago "going for a run" that's the joy of motoring that a FFRR brings back - along with semi-retirement Thumbs Up

One question what sort of paint did you use? Geoff

I picked my 2003 4.4 up today and the brakes aren't great, no chance of cutting the abs in i'd say and stopping dead certainly doesn't happen

The discs and pads are pretty had it though - hopefully this is the cause unless there's any other ideas?
