Tailgate Closing

Hi all anyone any ideas as to why when the tailgate is opened with the key fob its ok when i try to close it with the fob the lower section sometimes will not close i can hear something clicking like a relay. The lower section will close on the door manual button and the top section also on the door manual button.

These are complex and have a number of sensors in both lower and upper sections that can go faulty, not expensive to replace but can be tricky to fault find...

Does the lower section close if you press the top section button? It should of course. The only time mine hasn't worked is when the battery was low on charge. Never been a problem with full battery or engine running. Mike - MPx

Mine occasionally fails to close at all - I just press the unlock button. This often does nothing as the car may already be unlocked but then the tailgate closes - spooky! Geoff

To confuse things further Lr changed the functionality of the tailgate by model year.

My previous 2013 would need the upper and lower opening / closing as separate actions. My current 2015 will open and close the upper and lower together. Although I always check it’s worked as the lower starts to move much after the top is closing giving a sense it’s not going to work.

Also the lower opens fully 3/5 occasions with the other two requiring a small push to finish.

It’s all part of owning a RR. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

Mine works ok if i press the unlock on the fob then the tailgate button on the fob weird

Mine had an issue a few months back, would just bleep at me and not close so had to do manually. resolved by dealer very quickly, it was the sensor strips either side of upper tailgate that needed replacing, all good since excellent work from local dealer

Ive got a similar issue where both tailgates start to close, then i get a bleep and nothing!
