United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Corris Grey
50 Today

According to a double-page spread in the Telegraph today, it's 50 years since the first RR rolled off the production line. I did not drive one until 1981, let alone think I would own one, but so happy I got there in the end! Very Happy

A little ,but absolutely true story about my first drive in a Range Rover in the winter of 1971/1972.
I was employed as a BT radio engineer maintaing the microwave station at Windy Hill, adjacent to junction 22 on the newly opened M62, the highest point on the GB motorway network.

I got called out to a fault one very snowy evening and went up in my fairly new swb BT Land Rover
( PNC 190 J )
After clearing the fault I set out for home in blizzard conditions on the A672 down into Saddleworth where I live.

In the distance I could see blue flashing lights.
I then came to a Police Range Rover which had slid off the road and got stuck in a snow filled ditch at the side of the road.

I stopped and talked to the PC, who virtually begged me to help him get back on the road.
He told me he should not have been off the motorway, but was just nipping down to Denshaw village pub to buy some cigarettes when he lost it on the bend and got stuck.

We attached his tow rope and eventually got him free.

I asked him to call in at the station some time so that I could look at the Range Rover ( first one I had ever seen)

Within a few days he called in and I finished up driving around the compound and on to the moor.

It took me nearly 20 years to be able to buy one but I always knew I would get one eventually.

I remember in the early 70’s it was heavy snow. As a kid I was out walking with Mum and Dad and it was eerily quite. Walking up the inclined road from Amesbury to Boscombe Down this RR drove past us up the hill, it was the only thing on the road and that’s stayed with me to this day Thumbs Up visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

My first ride in a Range Rover was about 1975, I was at a country show in Lyme park where a local Land Rover club we’re taking people round an off road course to raise money for charity. I was bit there and then by the Land Rover bug and vowed I’d have a FF one day when I saw what it could effortlessly do, happy birthday Range-Rovers Thumbs Up

My first drive was in 1989 when i worked for a LR dealership and was 'shuved into' delivering RRC's both NEW and to existing service customers... I was then bitten by the bug that's shaped my working life!!! Thumbs Up

1982 and I found a W plate in Sahara gold in the classifieds of the Birmingham Evening Mail, which I persuaded my Dad to buy as his company car, to replace an SD1. I drove it and that was it, had to have one. Dad had 4, including a Monteverdi 4 door before having Discos in retirement. I drove all four of the classics he had and loved them - used one to move out of a student house, which seriously impressed my housemates!

Roll on to 2000 and I’m out of company cars, but couldn’t afford a Rangey so it was Freelanders for me. But the salesman knew I wanted a Range Rover, so over the years, as my pockets got deeper he got me first into RRSs and in 2013 my first Fatty. It was like knowing I had finally arrived!
