United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Epsom Green

Okay, so this morning's update:

I turned on the ignition and the engine fire up. Turned off the engine, waited a few seconds, turned the ignition but no start. I measured voltage across battery terminals while cranking and it was approximately 8.9 V. Based on this, I thought the issue must be battery related. Next step, I hooked up jump leads to my other car, waited five minutes, but still no start. The measured voltage across the battery terminals while cranking was around 9.5 V.

Am I right in thinking that this points towards fuel/injector issues?

Go to any motor factors, have them test your battery, once its confirmed Censored part with the price of a new one and I bet your problems will disappear.

Stop pratting about with jump leads and worrying about injectors or fuel issues, do the simple stuff first

Fair enough. I've ordered a Yuasa HSB020 battery from Halfords and will get it installed this afternoon.

I’d say if it runs fine after the easy start, prob injectors.

If it fires on easy start, then stops, fuel pump?

Have you ruled out the fuel pumps? AA man pulled pipe off fuel filter under bonnet and when I put ignition on, fuel squirted out, so we knew pumps were good. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

ok, well that's discounted the battery so tick that off the list.

If all this non starting comes from you jump starting the RR when the battery went flat, that's where we've got to start from.
Assuming the previous was telling the truth about it being fine then we have to look at what 'you've done'.
Fuel pump seems a strong point or how about the diesel filter being totally blocked?
Electrical wise, then one thought could be the ignition switch?

I'm fumbling in the dark like a teenager on a date at the local Roxie cinema hoping to push the right button.
I'm thinking out loud now whether that confuses the issue I don't know, just trying to help. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Well your not pratting about with jump leads anymore, so it's ruled out the battery issue, next check is glow plugs

Good luck

I had the same issue on my TD6. Would start fine one minute, then just spin over and not fire the next time. It did turn out to be the secondary-fuel pump, they're easy to do, just inside a panel under the N/S/R floor, you should see cross head screw if you pop underneath the car then remove the small plastic panel, you will smell of diesel once complete. If you want to check it, next time it does it get someone to lean underneath with lump of wood and bash it while turning the key, it usually shocks them into life. (How I proved mine) Mr. Green

That’s the one I said to wack.... easier if you take the plastic cover off.... though mine wasn’t intermittent. Just stopped working.

Another vote for the secondary fuel pump here, mine had similar symptoms.

What does your code reader say - low fuel pressure while starting?

Cheers guys,

plugged in an old BMW code scanner and picked up '1260 - Pre-supply pressure monitoring' and '09F6 - rail pressure monitoring on engine start'.

Given that it's pulling up an issue with the pre-supply pressure, am I right in thinking that this does point towards the secondary low-pressure fuel pump?

My code reader said exactly the same and it was the rear pump.

Reasonably cheap and easy to fix.

Just for clarification - the pump under the car just forward of the rear wheel arch

Cheers John. Will try the spanner trick to see if it gets it going but certainly looks like the most likely cause now.
