WANTED: Range Rover Td6 - sub £12500

Hi,
This is my first post, however I have been a long time lurker on the forum. I have been looking for a Range Rover or Discovery TDV6 with leather for about the last 6 months. I am quite particular about condition, service history and mileage, which doesnt help when your on a pretty tight budget! I am basically looking for.....

WANTED
Range Rover TD6
Grey / Black / Silver
Sub 85,000 miles
Good service history
Good condition
Preferably standard.
(Or a Discovery TDV6 as above with leather)

Obviously PM if you have/know of anything of interest.

Thanks.

hi, firstly welcome!!

i honestly think you will be hard pressed to get anything as good as you want for this kind of money!!

may i suggest maybe if you don't mind going back to an older car, try looking for the best Discovery 2 or P38 you can find.

you will have money left over then for any problems/repairs and still have a really nice car.

good luck with your search. please let us all know if you do come up with a bargain. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Welcome - I've removed your private email address and phone number as it's not the best idea to be sticking these on the open forum Smile

Welcome

I wouldn't recommend a P38 or D2 because they are quite unreliable. You may be hard pressed to find a FFRR for that money but should find an early D3. The L322 was a massive leap on from the P38 and likewise the D3 from the D2.

these are going for between £13500 and £14000 on ebay...you could possibly get the price down if you turn up with cash...

sorry to hijack your thread golf kid, but i must disagree about the reliability of the D2!! P38 maybe so, but i ran a V8 ES for 80k miles without so much as a peep from it and a D1 before that.

one of the best cars i have owned in my opinion.

i think you are more likey to have problems with the FFRR than a D2

just of course my opinions, if you buy as well as you can for your money, that's all you can do. the rest is in the lap of the gods. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

The P38 was never an unreliable car, it was however a complicated car for its age and unfortunately they were rarely maintained after their warranty ran out.

Tight asses turned the air con off, which meant the BeCM connections started to fur up and go green. People neglected the cooling system which lead to associated issues and eventually on the higher mileage cars the gearboxes are now failing (even though they've never had an oil change, it must be the boxes fault)

There are a LOT more issues on the L322 than on the P38.

That being said, the L322 has more tech and looks better. As much as I often hanker after a P38 I wouldn't ever replace the L322 for one.

To the OP:

You can pick up an L322 from 8K it seams, but you will get an "SE" spec which is lacking almost every button on the dash. It will be an oil burner with high mileage.

You can probably pick up an HSE for your money, but I would recommend going higher mileage and going for a Vogue. I would also suggest looking at the petrol, but LPG converted, or getting the conversion done. This then works out a LOT cheaper to run than the Diesel, and they are nice and cheap. The gearboxes also don't suffer from failure so much (as long as the oil is changed)

In response to the reply regarding the P38 or Disco 2. I think there is a huge gulf between those models and the L322 and Disco3 so much so that I wouldn't be particulary interested in either at half the price.
My dad is a mechanic and worked at Land Rover for some time, so mechanical problems aren't a massive worry, except
Obviously the huge jobs with expensive parts. I.e gearboxes etc.
Its frustrating buying at the bottom of the Market as choice is limited but I Will only use it at the weekends so can't really justify further expenditure. Just going to hold out until the right deal comes along.

My 04 td6 with 80k prob around 14k now so an 02 with say 90k should be within your budget.

If your only using it weekends how about a petrol, cheaper and faster. 2004 black Vogue TD6

I've got an 02 TD6 although not forsale at the minute but could be shortly with 77k on would be happy with 13k.

I'm sure you will find one with your budget but just be careful and don't just buy the first one you see just because of price.
