A great day out!

Hi all

Yesterday I had to relocate my daughter, who is a key worker, down to Bristol where she has been redeployed to help with the Covid19 pandemic.

180 miles each way along country roads, A14, M6, M42, M5 and then through the city streets of Bristol. Once on the A14 I set the cruise control and didn’t have to change speed or touch my brake until we came off the M5. I set the cruise at just below the 70mph mark.

I had filled up to the brim before leaving and below is the cars best guess on what the fuel consumption was for the trip. Fuel 2 is the figure for the trip.

I know that folk are going to start going on about how inaccurate the cars computer is when it come to mpg, but the figures make me happy when taking into account that the car was loaded up to the roof with the rear seats knocked down. One of the best bits of the trip is that my youngest daughter recently bought me the CD soundtracks to Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2 and there are some cracking songs on the disc’s!

360 miles of cruising in comfort.

Jim

Well done Jim for taking her and hope she stays safe - amazing how many selfless people we have and yet for everyone we have 10 idiots who are completely selfish

Good stuff Jim

I have never understood why people think vehicle computers would be inaccurate

Miles traveled must be from the odometer. Any error here would be present in both a computer and manual mpg calculation

Surely the only way for the computer to measure the fuel used is via monitoring injector duty cycles
(any reading from the fuel gauge would likely be hugely inaccurate)

Assuming the computer is calculating fuel usage from injector duty cycle data, this should be very accurate.

It follows that any difference between the trip computer and a manual mpg calculation is probably down to the amount of fuel being delivered by the pump being inaccurately reported by the pump.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!
