TDV8 3.6 Engine Mounts

Hi there everyone. I have noticed some uneven wear on the tires ant a bit of a harsh feel over bumps so took the rangie in for a check up at a suspension “specialist “ . I’m pretty sure they thought I had no idea how a vehicle works so went ahead and reported nearly everything as failed including but not limited to; steering rack, all shocks and engine mounts . They also told me that a high pressure power steering pipe had rubbed through. I must admit I struggled to keep a straight face listening to all this . I haven’t received a quote for repairs yet but was told it would be between 10 and 15 k aud. Anyway after arriving home I decided to remove the front wheels and have a look for myself. All I found was a slight leak in the steering and a bit of wear in the control arm bushes.
The engine mounts I’m not sure about, I put a jack underneath and pushed up until it felt like I was getting resistance. I am sure however I can’t move the engine easily by hand. I also had someone engage gears while I watched the mounts and saw little to no movement.

My question for you is how do the engine mounts normally fail? I remember on the d2 they gradually collapsed and became harsh . Is it the same for these ? And is there a history of the engine mounts separating (as I was told “both on the right side are completely separated and you can lift the engine by hand”
Also , what are the vacuum lines in the engine mounts for?
Here are some photos of the mount with a jack pushing them up. Do they look normal [i

Hi Freedriver,

Put aulro.com into your search engine.

There are plenty of members in Darwin(and elsewhere in Oz) that could give you advise re your problems.
I have the older TD6 model so cant advise either way.
Hope that helps.

cheers

I think the engine mounts are hydraulic so that's what the lines would be for. If they are firm and no movement then surely they are fine. I can't recall seeing a post on here about engine mounts failing in the 5 yrs I've been watching the forum but could have missed it. Don't think it's a common problem though. Have you tried tightening the bolts? And are you getting a lot of vibration through the car? When the mounts were shot on my 911 the passengers seat would be shaking at idle. Totally different car I know but same principle of engine not secure your get some vibration. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Thanks for the replies guys. When I took my car in the description of the problem I gave the suspension guy was tires wearing on the inside and a hard fide Omer bumps in the rear . Other than that it drives beautifully. I have ordered new rear shocks and Some bushes for the rear, front control arms and will get an alignment once fitted . I am just blown away by how unprofessional the shop I took it to are. Might ask them if they checked the muffler bearings if they get back to me with a quote.
I have been to LR automotive and chatted with Leigh, he is a good bloke and always busy with a herd full of landies. That is the only place in Darwin I see them .
