What would it cost to do the brakes yourself Mick - just out of interest - if you're that way inclined?

£650 is not a small amount of money for a relatively simple job... Shocked

Good question FFND, I've only been in the FFRR ownership game for 6 or 7 weeks, and not had to fork out for the parts yet - but will be looking for a set of rear pads in the next couple of months - if you know of a well priced supplier I'd certainly be interested... Thumbs Up

But I'd be doing the work myself, had a bad experience about 12 years ago, was over from Germany (where my tools were) and had to have my brake pads and a wheel bearing replaced: the f Censored rs put the bearing together with the wrong hub nut on, affecting the backplate and hub (with an almighty grinding noise after a couple of hundred metres)... Rectified the fault when returned, but the rear pads fell out a couple of months later. The cheeky b Censored rd point blank refused to accept responsibilty because I couldn't find the reciept, and had taken it, out of necessity, to another garage who he tried to finger for it!!! Strange really, that Smiley tyre and exhaust centres no longer seem to be in operation. Hmmm...

My last motor (Alfa) was different, did as much work as I could myself - only really handed her over to dealers if she needed plugging into 'examiner'. Saved a fortune (hundreds) when I changed my timing and counter-balance shaft belts: borrowed a friends garage space and cam-locking kit... Cost me a bottle of whiskey, but money well spent!!!

The sense of achievement also beats the sensation of an empty wallet - and getting bummed... Wink
