Bonnet not releasing / cable snapped / locked out? Solved.

Just overcome this problem myself.

Skill rating: 1* Easy
Tools required: Hammer

Problem: Bonnet not releasing on passenger side.

Cause: Cable snap.

Solution: The cable runs along the underside of the front cross member panel. Smash the front grille with the hammer and remove it completely, taking care not to damage the fan behind the grille. Reach in and find the cable (it is quite obvious) and pull it out. A tug upon the exposed broken wire with pliers should release the bonnet.

Other Info: If the wire has broken at the wrong end (at the mechanism), I believe removing the wheel and wheel arch liner may grant internal access to the lock mechanism using a long thin tool.

Hopefully this will help someone out in the future. It is my own method, I did not read this elsewhere. 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone
