with all the floods around during and after the storms do people drive through them? I mean is there realy any floods big enough to stop the range rover?

I havnt yet encountred any bad flooding local to me.. Only because i havnt needed to venture out but i am curiuos if i see a load of traffic driving around a big ass flood do i just gun hoe it right on through there? Ok i really mean drive senisibly through there... Regards

Nope. It ain’t worth it and only ever if it was a dire emergency.
It takes all water depth to escalate into a deadly scenario.

Just had this situation yesterday, driving from Bolventor (Jamaica Inn, Bodmin Moor) along their Valley to Goliaths Falls.

I went through the first flood, in a dip I knew well and it came half way up the wheels. About 1/2 a mile in the river then merged with the road and I couldn’t see the exit to the floodwater back on to dry road. Unless you know the depth, you can see the exit, there’s no flowing water and you know that there are no underwater obstructions, you can just be driving blind in a £100,000 gamble For any serious flood, unless there’s a life or death reason, it’s just not worth it and there’s usually another way around

Surely if the l322 can wade to 700mm then any flooded road etc thats not 700mm would be fine? Regards

Without wading it first, how do you know it’s 700mm?

How do you know if there isn’t an underwater obstruction, or a bridge that’s damaged, or even missing, under the floodwaters? Had someone abandoned their bike under the floodwater? Were there roadworks in the road before it was flooded?

What if the water is flowing across the road?

Can you even see a clear exit, with no stranded cars blocking the road?

...and silly as it sounds it can be difficult to know exactly where the road goes and you don't want to be putting a wheel on a submerged verge (or worse). Mike - MPx

that's a great vid Paul!

Knowledge of the road surface of course is key and if unlucky you may get stuck in a hole or collapsed piece of road, but the Rangie can cope with a deep flood no bother in my experience. I carry a long stick which I can use to gauge the depth if required.

I once undertook an off-road test with LR in Germany where we drove rangies around our tank driving range. One part of the Course was to drive along a tank ditch/Channel where the water came up to the top of the wheel arches and nearly to the bonnet. We made it through several times with water flowing over the bonnet and the roof

(We did get a from the LR people for going too fast, but then passed him next time round when he had stalled it in the middle of the same ditch by going too slowly!! )

So the advice seems avoid unknown roads; gauge if you can; keep a decent speed up. oh and drive on the crown (middle) of the road if poss!

Drain covers and manhole covers have a habit of being pushed up by water pressure. Don't want to put a wheel down one of those. I wouldn't put my old D1, that had a raised air intake and raised breathers, through unless I checked first. One washed away culvert and game over!

Also consider any properties nearby, you'll create a bow wave that will push water in all directions and may even flood a home that so far has survived. Mutters_Mate (Mark C)

I was looking for that earlier. As soon as the D5 started to float, it was off with the force of the river.
