Original DVD Nav drive Repair

I know they are old, and better solutions are out there, but I'd like to get the factory DVD satnav drive repaired and working, particularly as I might be putting my v8 up for sale, and this is the only bit that doesnt work

Is there anyone out there that still repairs these?

Any recommendations very welcome,

Thankyou.

It just doesnt seem to read the discs (any disc) and occasionally seems to freeze the main screen (presumably as its trying to load or something).

I've actually got two of them to repair, the second one seems to be the cause of draining the battery, but that doesn't load the nav either.

One seems to have had a bit of damp in at one point, but the pins are not excessively corroded and none of the boards inside are either.

Ok then a repair is pretty straight forward to be honest.

I would first attempt a repair to the one that's loads but isnt scanning all you need to do is clean the lazer with moths and a cotton bud or shimmy bud

They were originally, but a popular upgrade was the mark 3 or 4 (cant remember what) DVD drive which gave a better display, inc 3D maps and postcode search. I did this upgrade ages ago, and its worked well over the years, but they've just given up now.

Its still leagues behind anything you can weld to the screen, but my ocd wants them working as they should have been.

They are just CD drive like any other and suffer over time with dirt on the lense stopping it from focusing on the disc.
A clean works wonders if this fails to cure it then maybe swop the lasers over from the other unit if that fails then just buy another one off the bay

If I remember rightly, a lot of the upgrades were done using BMW units as they were cheaper and easier to get hold of so that could be an option if the cleaning doesn't help. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks for the advice.

I got a load of moths and some shimmies, and had a go at dismantling one of the drives. I couldn't access the laser easily, so I got an air duster on it anyway and cleaned the disc some more, sprayed the circuits with a level of abandon since it wasn't working anyway, and low and behold it has restored its functionality. Happy days.

Flushed with success, I tried the same with the other one (which looks in better condition), but this now seems to stop the nav screen from displaying anything (although there is sound there).

So, something isnt right with the second one, so I might get in touch with Revtronics and see if they can fix it.

Cheers all.
