Steve - I highly recommend using the "Search" function on here = 6 link from the left in the brown banner at top. There is lots of info on here that you will find useful.

worth having a close look at the crankshaft seal, if your seeing any external oil loss with drips if the underguards are removed. very hard to see clearly with restricted access. Both of my 4.4 have had leaking Crankshaft seals. if its smoking under hard load, as others have said, use it harder or get the oil drain mod done, if your doing that mod drop the engine and get the turbos checked, it will add about £1k to the overall bill, my circa 109,000 4.4 needed both turbos rebuilt, along with a host of other remedial works doing on. the EGR system and oil cooler. but now runs as it should. if you drop out the engine, you can remove the sump to drill it which takes no time if the engine is out and saves worry on swarf. |

My passengers side turbo was leaking oil. Rovertune checked it wasn't any feed pipes. It was weeping oil so I bit the bullet and had a new one fitted as the car is a keeper. I never had smoke on booting it either before or after new turbo fitted. I boot it daily up the slip road onto the dual carriageway Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Take it to a specialist LR independent who work on these everyday would be my advice unless you have the skills and facilities to do it Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

On RHD cars the primary turbo is off-side (i.e. drivers side) and secondary turbo is near-side

The turbo that I think is passing oil is the secondary (near side or L hand

the oil can't drain sufficiently from the mostly unused secondary turbo and gathers.
