One for the Glorious 12th

This handsome bird has been coming to my garden for the last 3-4 days and struts around, today he found the bird feeder - should be suitablely corn fed by August...................

It seems quite fearless as I was only 6ft or so away from it behind an open window when I too the photos.

Hi
The Pheasant shooting season doesn't start until October 1st. Grouse and Ptarmigan on the 12th August just thought I would let you know I wouldn't want to see you arrested for poaching Laughing Cheers Rob.

can't sell the things - nearly giving them away

on our shoot last year we were selling them for £1/brace Smile - reckon they cost over £20 each to 'put down' for shooting when you take into account all the costs - rent/keepers salary and car/feed etc etc

i've had plenty of people want them but the art of plucking/dressing game and fish is a lost today

i've offered people salmon/trout free but they cannot skin/bone/fillet etc - and as for 'bambi' forget it Mr. Green

talking of 'bambi'

once got pulled by the police on the a9 in perthshire after multiple members of the public had called them about 'bambi' being kidnapped!

i was on the way back from stalking on rannoch moor and had a stag in the back of the landrover - the way the carcass was placed made it look as if 'bambi' was looking out of the back window Rolling with laughter

You can do the same thing with pigeons...apparently.

Never done it, I respect the birds a bit too much to do that. But, better done that way and eaten than discarded.

So much effort goes into the rearing of the birds to get the shot and the kill, they deserve to be eaten. Thankfully places like Waitrose are great for selling game and getting more people tasting it.

What's even better is when your faithful friend fetches it for you too. It's the perfect day then Thumbs Up

I might try that next season. I usually just breat my birds rather than plucking/dressing.
