Rain sensor / auto lights issue

I think I might have got to the bottom of my non functioning rain sensor and auto lights but would appreciate your comments.
I had a new windscreen fitted today and hoped this would solve the problem but it hasn’t.
On opening up the sensor ‘clamshell’ cover I found the part number of the sensor fitted and googled it. I got a result which suggests it’s one for a sport! Big Cry

Looks like someone has tried to fix a problem in the past and fitted the wrong part. I’d be grateful if someone could confirm or contradict my suspicions.

Thanks in advance
Chris

If it has never worked for you then the fuse may have been removed.

Hi Graeme
Unfortunately that was the first thing I checked and it’s fine.

Strange - normally a new sensor comes with the new windscreen pre-bonded. There is a gel between the sensor and the screen - if you look from the outside of the screen at the sensor you may be able to see bubbles in the gel - if they are present then the sensor won't work.

See the picture below from my last screen instal which stopped the sensor working - the fitters put a new screen under warranty as it was supplied like that. You can see the bubble right in front of part of sensor on the bottom right

Hi Nick
I don’t think it’s the screen that is the issue, rather the gubbins which attached to the screen.
I believe the part number is LR014238 but that code doesn’t appear anywhere in the photo posted above, hence my query.

If anyone out there has reason to remove the two part plastic clamshell thingy behind the rear view mirror in the near future (MY 2010) and feels the urge to see if it’s the same as mine I’d be grateful Thumbs Up 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

A quick google of the part number shows it listed as a Jag, Disco, Sport and Freelander part -- seems generic! Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi Chris
Sorry, I wasn’t implying the screen was faulty but that the sensor should be bonded to the windscreen with a gel - the gel can develop bubbles like in the picture I posted (and that’s why they usually come prebonded on a new screen). When you look through your screen can you see the gel or any bubbles between screen and sensor?

If I get a chance in next couple of days I’ll take the clamshell off mine and check part number for you Current Fleet:-
