Window Drivers-side L322 Wont Close

So an odd fault (aren't they all?) which I haven't seen mentioned specifically in other posts.

I lowered the driver's window say a third of the way down to talk to my mechanic. (yup front end air suspension being replaced)

Tried to close again and nothing, no relay click that I can hear.

Window happy to go down further say to halfway point

Again tried to close window and again nothing.

Lowered window to fully open, again fine.

Would it now raise up and close? Would it f***!?!?

So currently parked up on my drive with a gaffer-taped tarpaulin covering the opening to keep the rain out....

IID tool due to arrive from Duckworths today which I hope will enable me to manual raise the window (will it?) and more importantly diagnose why this problem is occurring.

All the other windows open fine from both the drivers door switch cluster and via the key fob 10-second hold method.
Ditto all the windows close via either method above EXCEPT the drivers front window of course.

As I say this problem seems very specific to the one window rather than affecting all windows so I'm looking for any advice as to what to look at to troubleshoot this eg corrosion at some connector maybe?

Cheers

Regulator Wire fault

Take the Door card off and examine the window regulator. The wire that rotates and pulls the window up and down can shear off if there is a sudden jerk or its gets stuck/kinked. or it can come off the pulley at the bottom.

You will not be able to repair or replace the wire (unless you are very lucky/good with your child-sized fingers) so get a good second hand replacement (c.£40) and spend an hour or two replacing. there is a "How to" post on here about replacing etc.

Bonne Chance!

Thanks for info buddy or should I say mon ami Smile

Is the door card easy enough to remove, I'm a bit cautious of anything labelled with the scary word "AIRBAG", maybe there's a wiki on doing this?

It's odd though that the window would go down fine and of course the previous owner swears he never had this refusing to close happen etc Whistle

A few bits to help on the door card removal.

and if you search for window regulator or winder more info on that.

Not sure about your model, but for peace of mind take the battery terminals off before work. ISTR mine does not have a door airbag. Should be in the Wiki WM for yours. Cheers

Exactly the same happened with mine, regulator wire frayed and got clogged up , new regulator fitted.

For the airbag module, disconnect battery and then remove, do not start the car with the airbag disconnected of you will get the airbag light on.

Regulator easy to fit , just make sure you get the window up and seated before the final tighten.

Thanks for that, very helpful, mine was first registered 30 June 2002 so very early model, V8 SE (Poverty Pack) on LPG, otherwise factory original.

I'm now pondering a suitable name, current favourite is LOKI, apparently the wily Norse trickster god of fire (well it does have an internal combustion engine!) https://norse-mythology.org/gods-and-creat...sses/loki/

You could try holding the lock button down on the fob, and see if total closure feature closes it....will take switch out the equation.....

Though from the posts above, seems a few have had the same issue....

Good call and yes I did try that and... drivers window stayed fully down whilst the other three obediently raised... that outcome plus the fact that the drivers window switch was able to lower the window does point to something more mechanical like a broken regulator cable I guess.

So plan of action is:

1 - Get battery reconnected in a fully charged state tomorrow/weekend once wheels are back on.
2 - Get IID Tool configured and run a full fault scan plus see if it will allow me to attempt a manual over-ride window raise?
3 - If 2 fails, then remove door card and have a poke around!

Something else that occurs is I believe the window mechanism has some anti-trap functionality and I'm wondering if so then is there a sensor that governs this which might have gone rogue, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

What a pain in the a***, such a simple thing but make the beast unusable, hey ho.

Anti trap would make the window automatically go down to about 2 inch above fully down, so I don’t think it’s that.
