L322 Questions

Hi All,

im looking at getting back in the FFRR fold after many years of absence. i used to have a 1995 P38 4.0 HSE many years a go and sold it when it became to much trouble but the FFR bug never left me. Smile i now feel its time to jump back in the waters get get myself another one but this time an L322

i have been stalking these fourms for a while now but recently resigned backup. based on my reading i am very tempted with a circa 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue .

i have been doing my research and i know this year / engine combo is to start of the Jaguar take over but im not sure how far that goes and what kits still BMW and whats Jag as such i have a few questions i cant seam to find concrete answers on so was hoping you kind people could point me in the right direction.

1) does this year / model have any Ipod / USB connectivity or can it be retro fitted?
2) are satnav updates easy to come by? i know some Jag systems are actually vlovo systems
3) can you stream music over the factory fitted bluetooth or is there a retro fit option?

thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome,

Have a good read about the 3.6 on here, there are loads of posts about common faults etc.

1. Some do, it wasn’t standard but there is a kit which replaced the CD changer. It’s not the most intuitive and requires a physical iPod to be plugged in. There is a 3.5mm aux jack in the back which can take an audio input, but you don’t get screen control.

2. Nav update discs are available from various places (some not genuine but still work)

3. Short answer is no. Bluetooth is phone only. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I believe there is an apple car play option called navtool, its from the USA and costs around $500, it's a moderately easy install and gives touchscreen access to your phone with apple car play or android... more info in the ice forum. 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

Hi northernmonkeyjones,

thank you for the welcome. i have been reading up on the 3.6 and the common issues with the engine are the same common issues that can effect 2.7 engine in the Jag in my current fleet which is from the same lion series.

additionally thank you for the info on the media aspects.

I have a 3.6 with ipod integration and I find it very limited in functionality. In terms of head unit control you can only select from 5 playlists or skip forward / back. There is no way to play songs outside of the playlists you've created other than by going through every single track (of which I have thousands).

I used to be able to use random to find an artist that was close alphabetically to the artist I wanted and then skip forward a few tracks to the one I wanted. But a recent sync of my ipod has put everything in track title order rather than artist order which is Censored annoying...

[Edit] In other words, definitely look at other options even if they cost a bit more [/Edit] 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

And just to clarify one point, the official kit doesn't actually replace the CD changer. It gives you the option of using either. You have to decide which you want before you start the car though and you cannot change without a restart.

Fitting it was a bit of a pain IIRC. Not particularly difficult but fiddly and time consuming not helped by the fact the kit I bought was missing one or two bits (the perils of ebay). 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I think the part number is VPLME0004 if I haven't put you off the idea altogether... 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

That is the correct part number. I fitted it to my 3'6 a couple of years ago. It requiress stripping out the glove box to install. It was fine for playing music from an ipod and better than just the cassette player. It has USB connection as well as the 30 pin apple connection. I didn't have problem with random as I put both the car cd on random and the ipod on shuffle. It does have limitations though.

HOWEVER, I have recently fitted the NavTool interface and, IMHO, it is streets ahead. You have the ability to stream music, we use Spotify, and also other apps on your phone such as Google Maps. It also has the advantage that you can have the car's original system at the touch of a button.

I did have some problems (detailed on the other thread) but Navtool replaced the unit and, touch wood, I have had no problems since.

The additional bonus is that installation is all done at the boot with no stripping out. Cables have to be left forward is all.

My tuppence worth. Smile John

hi Mike,

thank for the info. if im honest i dont think these limitations would bother me what i really want is a USB socket so i can plug a flash drive in and plag songs form there. the Ipod would be good so i could try one of these Ipod to bluetooth adaptors that exist i have found then successful in the past in my other cars

I'm not sure what control you get over playback from a USB stick. If you're happy to play songs in order or skip the odd song I'm sure it would work fine. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Hi Mike,

all i really from what USB is Next / Previous track and next and previous folder / album. not after anything to fancy.

i have found a few places that still sell the ACM for not a bad price so i think that is an option well could be when i finally find the right TDV8 FFRR to buy.

thank you for your advice.

Your question prompted me to try it out and I've realised that I really gain very little from having an iPod connected over just attaching a USB device. That said, what you get is access from the touchscreen to the first five top-level folders on the device (CD1-CD5) and an "all tracks" playlist in the form of CD6. You can then skip back and forth within these.

So I can easily recreate what I have on the iPod without the pain in the Censored that is iTunes / managing an iPod but the ACM is still a bit limited in what it can do....
