If it were me I'd look elsewhere, even if it does involve a bit of travel. Some well maintained examples come up on this site under 'For Sale' from time to time.

I wouldn’t say that turbos or gearbox are known faults on the 4.4, in fact, I’d go as far to say there are hardly any issues with actual turbos or gearbox.

I agree with CS and MJ. Deadline or walk away with a refund.

Hmm, tricky one, but I do agree with the others, if they can't fix it before you have bought it, its unlikely to be done post completion.

Thank you, I used to work in the trade a very many years ago, pre all the electronic controls these days. It's funny you mention injectors as when i first drove it i wondered if it might be an injector as an imbalance in the engine would give a very similar effect to what i experienced. The only thing is that i couldn't replicate it in any other gear or speed. After reading a very many posts on here over the last couple of months it has become clear that correct diagnosis is key. I don't know what equipment they have but they sell lots of high end vehicles so i presume they must have something decent though i have been thinking along the lines of incorrect diagnosis especially once the gearbox came out which seems rather extreme to me. |

Thank you, Likewise, i haven't noticed any pattern of these faults on here. I'm not in any desperate need of another vehicle as i have other transport, hence giving them time to sort it out, but now things have gone on plenty long enough. At the time i just thought it must be something simple! |

Thank you, I have no intention of completing the purchase until the faults are sorted and a decent explanation is given as to what/how it was fixed. They are not a main dealer. I did think about paying for an AA or RAC inspection but with no come back if they get it wrong and after reading some poor reviews on them, i decided there wasn't much point as i know the mechanical side of vehicles well just not the electronic stuff. I haven't driven another 4.4 tdv8 though i have driven a couple of Disco 4's recently with the same gearbox and they didn't feel like this one, just super smooth right through the speed/ rev range. |
