iPhone X GPS problems

Hi, Anyone on here have an iPhone X and use apps that need GPS?

I use Waze a lot, but since buying my L405 the app barely works at all. Apple recently changed the phone but the problem persists.

Searching online it seems that some cars interfere with the GPS tech inside the phone.

Anyone had the same issue?

Resurrecting this thread, but yes, I'm having GPS problems for a phone or a TomTom inside the car.

I think I have narrowed it down to having a solar attenuating screen which plays havoc with the GPS signal.

There are gaps at the top of the screen for things such as motorway toll tags and the like, but fastening the phone/TomTom there doesn't exactly work in practice. Shocked

I think, and I'm very open to input here, that the thing to do is to get a GPS re-transmitter. Looks like this is a common thing to do in trucks.
Has anyone here done this? If so, where did you put the receiver (top of screen gap?) and the transmitter?

Believe it was an option, yes.

Also saw something about it was needed if you had the heads up display. The markings on the glass do have a "HUD" marking as well as the solar attenuation marking. L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!

No, they struggled to understand the problem to be honest.
“Why not use the car’s SatNav?” was the best they could do.
Expect I’m unlucky and other dealers might be better?... but then again... there’s very little on our forums about it! L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!

had a quick google and it appears that with the latest phone chipsets [sirf3?] and the addition of the russian satellites to the american ones ,its easier to to get a signal through the windscreen.. ... - .- -.

Good point.
New phone bought at the weekend does work better than old one... will test properly tomorrow.
But does that mean I’ll have to replace my older but functioning TomTom?
I might try one of the repeaters first... Amazon one is £40 but eBay has similar ones for £8.
Cheaper that a new TomTom. 😃

Good to log the process for future owners tho. L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!

Thought it was only me!

I have to prop my iphone X on its side inside the instrument binnacle. Thats the only place I get a reliable signal.

@ notty, i should imagine a repeater will benefit both the nav and phone... ... - .- -.

Repeater solves the problem.
Full and quick signal.

Looking to wire it in a little more discretely now.
The USB connector under the dash next to the SIM slot has power. Will investigate further, but expect that’ll provide a quick and easy solution. May even be able to power the TomTom as well as the GPS repeater. L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!

Good news! Any chance you can let me know which model of repeater you bought?

Not sure I'm allowed to link to eBay sales on here or not... but if you were to search for something like "Car GPS Signal Antenna Amplifier Booster for Car GPS Receiver Transmiter C6R1", them I'm sure you'd find it. Cost £9ish and came from Middlesex. There are loads available online.

Further update...
It's very easy to run the cable from the side window in the boot all the way to the front dash area. Excess wire is neatly stowed next to the fuses in the rear. The GPS transmitter pops out and sits discretly on the dash at the far right. The USB power for this (and my TomTom!) comes from directly below under the dash. There are multiple ways of doing this... the proper way is to take a fused feed from under the dash and then convert it to USB voltage. Another option is to take USB power from the diagnostic socket using a suitably protected USB hub.

Result is a very neat installation with a working SatNav while keeping the solar attenuated glass goodness !
(Sorry, always hated the on-board SatNav) L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!

You don't connect it.
This add-on simply takes a good GPS signal (from the receiver placed by the rear side window) and then re-transmits it inside the car. The SatNav/phone picks it up in the normal way.

Took me a while to research this as there's actually not that much good info out there... but I now know it's a popular accessory with truckers for some reason!

As someone else mentioned, the newer the device the better the reception so that you may not even need a signal repeater like this. L405SC just arrived... still working everything out!
