Hi all

I may have to relocate to the West Country in the next few months and have seen a nice rental property on the outskirts of Taunton which ticks all the boxes.

Anyone living in that area? What’s it like for clubs and social life? Any good LR indy’s near by?

What’s it like for clubs and social life? do you count bingo, It is the geriatric centre of the universe. Any good LR indy’s near by? There are more Land Rover product than you can shake a stick at but the main dealer is appalling and the indies tend to look after aging Defenders and Discos. letters not necessarily in the right order

The best dealer is in Exeter. Can’t vouch for Taunton nightlife but it’s lovely countryside!!

And not too far from Craig at Cam-Tech up the M5 in South Gloucester/

Can't comment on night life , plenty in Bristol.

The three local stealers are Matfords in Exeter; Yeovil Land Rover; and Taunton Land Rover - however, in reality they are all part of Helston Garages so all operate in the same way. I had some good experiences at Matfords, but in the end gave up with them lying to me and being unable to diagnose issues if "the computer says no". Yeovil lasted 3 visits before the serious upselling of issues started and when called out on it decided more lies was the best response. Wont be going back there. Taunton has just opened a very swanky new JLR centre on the Tone Way. They'll be needing to get those millions back, so I wont be going there for a while.

I've used Blackdown 4x4 a bit - good enough indie, but really more interested in the dealership side rather than service/repair.
I'm going to try Windwhistle 4x4 next as its very close to me, but they are more in the Defender Freelander territory for the bulk of their business so I'm not that confident.

If your life revolves around city life, clubs and bustle....this part of the country really doesn't sound like a good fit. Compared to the SouthEast where I came from, the roads/traffic are brilliant, the countryside lovely, the people more friendly and the cost of living much lower. But if you need a good range of shops or live your life in a hurry then you'll get very frustrated! I love it... Mike - MPx

The 2 nearest indies are https://www.cwfelthamltd.com/ and Country Rovers in Taunton but the latter do not even have a website.
The DP from Taunton Land Rover moved over from Yeovil when the longstanding DP gave in.
The Barnstaple dealer is the only local one not part of David Cars empire.
Where will you be working and where do you plan to live.
Be aware that despite having miles of moorland most of the RUPs are not car accessible.
If you are thinking of buying a new FF then I highly recommend Martin Potter at Taunton Landrover, dealt with my last 4 but the rest of the outfit let him down. letters not necessarily in the right order
