oh poo! restricted performance tdv8 4.4

well i got 6 months of good motoring i suppose !!

2011 TDV8 4.4 106K miles

coasting up to a junction, saw a gap put my foot down and slight judder then the warning came up.

When I got a chance I pulled over and put my Nanocom on it and it didn't reveal any faults at all. reset all faults a couple of times in any case and problem won't clear.

Car appears to be running fine just no performance.

Oh and the orange engine light is on....

Ive booked it into my local independent to have a look (LRS in Gosfield )

Good news is its made me get my old P38 out of storage, feels like a go kart in comparison...

Check the 4 donut hoses on intake. Have they been upgraded to the revised spec ones?

hi Guys,

Thanks for getting back.

So... Ive popped outside and taken the cover off.

Im not sure if the doughnuts are the revised spec ones or not.

However i did notice a lot of soot/oil residue on the front right hand one. in-fact the engine cover underneath was covered in it.

I took the jubilee clips off and spun the rubber rings around and couldn't see any obvious splits but it is now tipping it down with rain.

I clamped everything back on tight started the engine and am sure I can hear air pressure hissing when the engine is revved.

Im on my own at the moment and stupid as it sounds couldn't find a way of revving the engine from the engine bay so couldn't see where the hissing is coming from. Im hoping its just a split hose will have another go tomorrow

Im a little alarmed by the amount of oil/soot and oddly its only on the righthand side.....

Soot = you've almost definitely got a split then.

Can be under the clamps or just underside of the hose.

Easy fix if it is. Cheers, Greg

Good stuff ( i guess !!)

was having nightmares driving it home !!

I even dug out my warranty stuff !!!

I will have a proper look tomorrow.

Does the large centre piece have to come off to get hoses off or can the be prized out in situ ?

Just thought I would post an update.

I ordered some silicon hose to replace the four doughnuts (i believe only one is leaking but thought it prudent to replace them all whilst it was in bits).

I went to move it yesterday and found, much to my annoyance, that a DPF red fault has come up......

The car is driven "enthusiastically" and as I live in the sticks most drives are over an hour and at fast motorway speeds.

In my ownership Ive had no DPF warnings at all.

I drove it home when the initial reduced performance warning appeared, a distance of say 20 miles at between 30/50 mph.

Ive only got a Nanocom (it was for my P38 and I bought an additional licence for the L322) But I don't think its man enough for all this, (in fact to be honest in hindsight I feel I should have just bought a GAPIID instead of updating the licence)

So I may well just let my local independent sort it out, its booked in for Thursday in any case

Censored !!

On a positive note, my old 4.6 P38 fired up first time and after 15 mins tick over rose majestically on its airbags and has just said through its MOT after being laid up since I bought the TDV8.

infact the MOT chap commented on what good condition it was in, under all the cobwebs !!!

If you’ve just gone straight to red warning, it may mean your car is not regenning automatically. Get your oil/fuel mix level checked as well as dpf soot levels. I had the same fault/situation and found my fuel in oil mix Level was 12 (7 is the warn level). I had oil and filter changed and then service reset on menu. This resets the oil fuel reading to zero. I went for a regen run yesterday and it worked within 4 miles if setting off.

Deffo get an IID tool (from duckworths on here) - it takes your understanding of the car to a new Level and allows you to monitor soot levels in your dpf and more usefully, your exhaust temps (regen only happens at over 600 degrees and pumps in diesel fuel to raise burn temp hence some gets into engine and dilutes the oil.)

Latest update and its not a good one Sad

It turns out I have a split inlet manifold. LRS are quoting £1200ish (apparently its a 6 hour job..)

They say its common on the 3.6 and is now starting to show up on the 4.4 as a thing....

That price includes sorting out the DPF with has now produced an error...

Fortunately I took out a policy with warentywise and have been in touch with them and they have sent me forms for the garage to fill in. hopefully should get a say on wether they will cover it later today.

More later

I've not read about splits in manifolds for a while.

Have you done a search here? Might be some tips / info

BTW a DPF that normally behaves will fill up quickly with too much o2 from air leaks e.g. hoses or other.

You might want to get another price anyway. If your warranty is paying doesn't matter maybe?
. Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg,

Was just having a poke around on the forum reading about them.

Im going to see if the warranty will cover it first.

LRS have always been good to me, They did some work on my P38 when I was away working overseas for a couple of months. When the bill came in it was considerably less than they quoted (and they delivered it home for me as I was away !!)

will wait and see what the out come is.

I only remember 2 splits in the actual manifold when I compiled my 4.4 tdV8 Fault Log thread, but quite a few more where the plenum section split, usually along the seam.

So.....

Bad news.

Warentywise have decided to not pay for the repairs.

I have 10/100 level of cover at around 900/1000 year

I need:

1.inlet manifold
2.injector washers
3. DFP regeneration

I understand clutches /suspension, serviceable items subject to wear and tear but a manifold is an inanimate object that just sits there being a manifold.

The DPF region is a fault that has come about because of the split manifold.....

Ultimately its my fault I guess, the lady that answered the phone told me that its all listed on page 12 of my plan booklet and basically I should have read all of the book. which is a true statement I guess......

Still not happy though....... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
