Parking brake acting funny

Bit of a weird one this

I've noticed that sometimes I'll get in the car, turn the key and get a rapid beeping accompanied by a flashing parking brake red light, and (I think) an orange brake light too

I'd assumed this was telling me the parking brake wasn't on - fair enough I thought, my driveway is flat so maybe I sometimes forget to pull it when parking up. Now here's the good part: When it happens, it turns out the parking brake IS on! So what on earth is it trying to tell me?

I've been taking extra care to make sure I pull it on when parking but still now and then I get this warning. It doesn't happen all the time and I'm trying to figure out in what circumstances it happens. Current theory is it may have something to do with the order or hitting Access height button, putting into Park and pulling on parking brake. Wondering if the going into Access height with the parking brake on might be causing it, or putting the brake on while it is dropping down to access height, so am trying to make sure it's parking brake on last, once the suspension has fully settled down.

Anyone had this before? Parking brake seems to work fine, as do the brakes themselves. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

I had it happen a couple of times about two months ago. Everything seemed to work fine and the parking brake functions as it should.

In the end I put it down to a glitch as it hasn't happened since and I haven't worried about it. Which means it will happen again tomorrow. Shocked Very Happy John

I think I had something similar happen once or twice. It seemed to go away again.

At the next MOT, I needed a new handbrake module as it was apparently not operating on one wheel. On investigation, it had apparently shredded some gears.

It was very expensive.

I still don't understand the point of Electronic Handbrakes. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Would make a fun poll “who likes an electric handbrake “. 🤪
Have to admit I love mine, had one on my old Jag Sovereign then had a manual one on the X5 which was dreadful! No matter what you did, what you replaced, it was never any good. Now back with a proper handbrake on the Westie & love it! Each to his own though.😀 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!
