Some time ago my 2 year old VSE developed a low volume noise which can best be described by me as if someone is blowing gently on on open pipe end or across the end of a bottle. The noise isn't loud and although the noise is constantly there at between 25 and 45 mph it is no a constant noise if that makes sense. It went in for service 2 months ago and to have this fault looked at and although they could hear the noise they could not find out the cause and asked that I let it develop further in order to diagnose it. Now it hasn't got much worse but the fact that I am tuned in to the noise makes it a continual source of annoyance when driving as I am listening for it all the time. I have spoken to the dealer and booked in again for next week to see if it can be sorted but my question is how far can I expect them to go with this and how much time can I reasonably expect them to spend on the problem. if the dealer cant find the cause then you're stumped really....if it was an obvious fault then there would be no problem fixing it..

Wind noise of some sort is my gut feeling but I've checked all windows and sunroof, it doesn't come and go at a certain rev range it appears around 20 mph but is at its loudest around 35/40 mph although it is never very loud, i don't think it actually goes away at higher speeds it's just the extra bit of road noise drowns it out somewhat. It could well be something as simple as wind whistling past something under the car such as deployable side steps for example, difficult one really. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

Now don't quote me for exact location here but my mate had his 2012 Westminster repaired earlier this year and there was what I can best descibe as a foam blanking cover that went somewhere in the region of where the A pillar meets the inner wing. It hadn't been fitted as the new one hadn't arrived and it produced a similar wind noise to what you have described. Once the new one was in it was all good.

Thanks for the ideas I will have scout round and see if I find anything bearing the above ideas in mind. Keep the information coming though because I think if I can't find I will finish up changing the car sooner rather than later it is so annoying. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

No, mine are fixed. So you can probably cross that one off of your list. |
