HF radio in L322 (HAM radio)

Anyone with experience using HF radio in L322?

What I'm worried about is potential interference with the electronics in the car while transmitting on HF bands.

On my old '06 Pajero/Shogun it was stated in the User Manual where to put the antennas to avoid interference but in RR manual it's not mentioned.

VHF and UHF (2m/70cm) would probably be fine, especially with only 5W. But when I'm doing HF (1.8-30MHz) it's 100W and has a much higher potential for causing problems.

Yes, I've seen that one. But is more in the direction of fitting VHF/UHF. Nothing about HF Wink

I use an Icom 7100 in my MY12 L322. An Icom tuner is also installed but I replaced the tuner's RF output terminal with a S0239 socket to run a shielded coax to the antenna mount on the roof, not wanting RF from 100W transmissions inside the vehicle. The radio is mounted to the back of the right rear seat with the head unit attached to the front of the centre console with stick-on Velcro.

So no special problems with RF interfering with the cars electronic. Sounds promising. Demands of course antenna which is properly tuned.

I'm using IC-7000 with Little Tarheel II antenna on mag mounts on the roof. Benefit from that is no tuner required since I tune the antenna directly. And ground plane is given by the roof. Actually made a QSO with Australia (Sydney-area) from Norway once with this setup on my old Pajero.

Not yet decided how to mount the radio and head unit, but that's normally not a big issue. Plenty of space Smile

Your antenna has good reviews.

I have a 477MHz UHF CB in mine with the controls in the mike (main unit behind the passenger side kick panel). The mike is in the sunglasses holder.

I haven't yet worked out where and how to mount the Alinco 2m/70cm rig yet. It has a detachable head so I'll probably use double sided tape to mount it.

My Yaesu FT-840 HF rig is a little too big for mobile use in the L322 so the plan was to use it portable when camping.

I'd like to mount my 2m/70cm rig in the glovebox instead of the CD unit, but I can't see how to remove the CD!

The plan is to get a flexible antenna and mount it to one of the roof rails.

on your issue, I'd suggest winding the power cable through a ferrite ring a few turns, to prevent RF sitting on the power supply lines.
