Yes, the front propshaft is the same, though the final drives are different (i.e. different ratios: petrol = 3.727, diesel = 4.100)

Got a replacement front prop , doesnt fit ! Looks like there are 2 types , bolt on or flange

Theoretically, there shouldn’t be any 5-speed L322s left on the road with the old-style splined pinion drive tube as they should all have been converted to the flexible joint version under Service Action Q041 which was rolled out in June 2008. Your vehicle, like everyone else’s, should have the flexible joint.

oh right , well theory is out the window here Phil , mine still has the old spline type fitment , a fact I didn't know until I went to fit the replacement this morning , can I get round it OR do I just source another ??

That’s amazing that your spline has lasted as long as it has. Generally, a slight misalignment between the propshaft and the final drive unit caused the spline to wear away and eventually fail through fretting corrosion, as huge numbers of us had the pleasure of experiencing.

I would suggest talking to your main dealer. This was a free of charge service action to address a very common failure point. They avoided the term recall for some reason, but to all intents and purposes, that’s what it was. I’m not aware that any time limit was put on the corrective action. You never know your luck - they might do all the work and supply all the parts courtesy of LR. Even lend you a new vehicle for a few days whilst they do it? Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

There was a time limit on the "Service Action" and it expired many years ago

However, if you don't ask, you won't get

Mine failed 7 years ago and the 'recall / warranty' , I was informed , expired the week before. My vehicle was in the main dealers care being driven to the garage when the front prop failed ,and as such they recovered the vehicle at no cost to myself. However it still cost me the thick end of £1000 !
