.Not wheel bearing. Tire noise.

I was sure I had a post about this pseudo wheel bearing noise but can't find it. So an update to those that gave input. I had a front wheel noise that sounded like a possible wheel bearing with that wa wa wa sound that increased and decreased with speed and so some extent seems to increase with right turns. This appeared to be coming from the front left tire. BMW/Land rover certified mechanic checked it and couldn't be certain where it was coming from. Wasn't convinced it was WB.
Finally got around rotating front tires to rear. The noise has lessened, not there with turns and coming from rear. I'd say that makes it a tire noise.
Here is the odd things. The tire is well balance. It has some feathering that is mostly felt but can be seen if you look hard. The sound comes on distinctly at 20 MPH and gone under 20. Doesn't get much louder. Now that it is on the rear it can't be heard at highway speed. I do keep the pressure at 40 lbs.
I'm wondering if a belt has started to separate. Any clues?

I have had this problem on three different cars.

What make tyres have you got?

Not all premium tyres are good. I have experienced this problem with Kumho, Toyo and Continental tyres.

I got the Toyo for my Lotus Esprit they had a low noise figure but sounded like a low flying bomber at 30MPH!

I sold a car because I was convinced that gearbox bearings were bad only to discover the same problem with a later car. Cured by fitting different tyres.

Never had a noise problem with Michelin and Goodyear.

Pirelli scorpions 235/65 19s. The slightly taller tire also help with cutting through snow and puts the speedometer spot on to my GPS speed. Set of 4. The 2 rears started the slight feathering originally. When I had them rotated is when I first noticed the pseudo wheel bearing noise. Didn't make the connection at first. Yes. I run them with higher pressure. That how I can get 20 mpg (us) highway. Theoretically one would think the centers would wear faster or different with higher pressure. Keep in mind the feathering only showed up on tires on the rear. Now that they have been rotated a couple time in less than 8k miles three of the 4 have at least some slight feathering. It is the out of round sound that has me curious. Perhaps I'll try running them at normal pressure for 10k miles and see what happens. No doubt they do run more comfortable with lower pressure.

I think you have just got a bad batch of tyres.

The taller tyre should give you a smoother and quieter ride.

Ok the pressures may have an effect but my problems were at the correct pressures. I think I also saw feathering on the noisy tyres.

Over the years I have become quite aware that getting the wrong tyres can ruin the experience and you cannot take them back and say you don't like them.

Not fully convinced with Pirelli either.
I have had a few Jags with them on and had problems with cracking and poor wet grip changed to Michelin which gave a massive improvement.

When I phoned the vendor about the L322 I bought back in May he told me that the R/H/F wheel bearing was starting to make a little noise. This did start to get more noticeable after a while.
It turned out to be the tyre - they were all Goodyear (a brand I would never buy by choice ) but the R.H/F was a different tread pattern. After a while I decided to check & put on the spare (which was the same as the others) & the noise disappeared.

Not the first time on a vehicle I have had problematical tyres that sounded like wheel bearings. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6
