Big puncture today.

Jacking a 2.7 ton car by the side of the road is somewhat nerve wracking.

Will it fall on me, or will I get run over?

Thankfully neither.

But need a new tyre now.

Currently running Continental cross contact lx sport 275 40 22 on all 4 wheels.

As well as the punctured tyre I need another. Both will be fronts.

Do I stick with what I have, or change brand?

Toyo and General Grabber are much cheaper but are they worse?

All thoughts, comments and suggestions greatly appreciated. What do I put here then?

If px-ing I would buy the cheapest main stream tyre you can find. If selling privately you can command a premium for all matching tyres - I’d then buy the Conts 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

4 matching tyres always looks good when selling a car.

It might work out cheaper to buy 4 matching tyres rather than 2 contis.

If you are thinking of px'ing then I wouldn't worry too much and just buy the cheapest branded you can find.

LR recommend having sets of four.

If your rear tyres are still good then I'd just get a pair of Contis, having a matched set will give better handling and a more consistent feel. You'll be driving the car for another eight months or so, why make it less pleasant to drive just to save the cost of maybe one tank of fuel in the short term, especially when mismatched tyres are a known signal to buyers of a car where the owner has tried to economise. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I wouldn't entertain buying a car with cheapskate tyres fitted! Sorry if that seams harsh but, if an owner cuts corners there? Where else have they?

I’m the same - 4 matching premium tyres or I wouldn’t even look at it.

As above, it’s the most glaringly obvious indicator of someone who cuts corners and skimps 0n things IMHO

It’s a personal thing - I don’t like mixed brands.

If they are cheaper than the premium brands fitted at the factory, then they’re a cheap brand IMHO - still one step up from a brand i’ve never heard of though......

After looking around, the consensus is to go for premium tyres and, if possible, stick to same type.

So after some calls and haggling, I'm getting Continentals fitted tomorrow.

i would look for some 21'' wheels and tyres on ebay, better ride and probably easier to sell when you decide to.. ... - .- -.
