4.4 TDV8 - changing fuel filter

Hi guys,

One of my service items is my fuel filter which I'l be changing soon.

I've got the workshop manual, looks pretty straight forward.

Interestingly it says disconnect battery ground. On a diesel seems a bit of overkill but fine....

The bit I'm not sure about is that it says :
Refer to: Low-Pressure Fuel System Bleeding - TDV8 3.6L Diesel (310-00 Fuel System - General Information, General Procedures).

Seems there is a bleeding proceedure but I don't have the 3.6 manual, can anyone shed any light?

Cheers! Cheers, Greg

Thanks to Emirates380 for his fantastic write ups - the priming STEP 14 sounds about right

Switch OFF Ignition and repeat

Shame his pics have gone Big Cry

There was a similar procedure on my Defender TD5 to kick the fuel pump in and force it to bleed/prime itself after fitting a new filter.

On the Defender you could hear the pump whining away and priming while it was doing it's thing, and then it all went quiet at the end - it always worked perfectly for me Smile.

its an easy task but the new filter can put up a fight when going on. I cross threaded mine without even realising.

+1 with Nino, i just turned on ignition and waited for fuel pump to stop and then started RR and left it tick over for a few seconds. I had to remove the whole assembly to get the filter off as it was too tight with my sausage fingers!! 2015 4.4 AB

thanks chaps.

So shall I disconnect the battery?

I'll need it back on straight away for the priming.

I did not, i did take out air box (held in place by tree rubber grommets) which will give you plenty of space to work. Very Happy

last one is on the bottom.
