Fire!

Hey guys

Just been driving on the motorway.. pulled up at the lights and there was smoke coming out of the left side of the bonnet.

The journey was about 30 miles long and it’s warm weather so it’s definitely not FBH.

Any ideas what this could be? Once stopped I opened the bonnet and there was nothing I could see a matter. It did seem the engine bay did seem warm but nothing sounded strange.

Is it worth getting the RAC out to check?

Any advice would be most appreciated chaps

unfortunately you havnt filled in your car profile but i guess you might have a tdv8 4.4???

if so, then its oil in the rear of the engine which has accumulated and when you stopped the oil splashed
onto the exhaust resulting in smoke..
this oil accumulation is due to the breakdown of oil seals or oil cooler leaking..

I’ve been meaning to fill in my profile Whistle

I’ve had my oil cooler changed due to leaking around 2 months. Could this old oil be from then or could it have reoccurred?

Could have leaked from the pipes at the back, or the seal under the oil cooler....or like I had, the oil cooler cracked. So they may have swapped it but if they didn’t change pipe seals, could now be leaking from there.

Or they didn’t clean the old oil out of the V of the engine properly.

I’d keep an eye on the oil level..... or you may find it’s burnt off now and might never happen again....

Get it on a ramp and check for oil leaks, especially down the bell housing... 👍
