Tried a few different things but the cable keeps popping out, so have to bite the bullet, turns out the V8 gear cable which could be cheaper , being the only s/h one I could lay my hands on , is a different number.
I can only take that as read , however a new cable is not out of it at £50 so here’s to the console dismantle!

Got a new cable from Pentland and there seems to be a change, especially the slide for fixing the cable to a bracket at the gearbox end . Instead of a circular ferrule on rubber , its a much larger rubber circular mount and a nut to clamp it . Has anyone changed the cable and found this , the parts department are saying there are no superseded numbers , but perhaps the bracket has changed?

A word of warning the cable has changed , I had to order a new bracket to secure the gearbox end , so cable and bracket fixings doubled in price for thr change . The parts dep. were surprised that this number has not been superseeded so was a bit caught out on the overall price.
