New windscreen paranoid now

Am I being paranoid?

Booked in for replacement windscreen and my insurance company said I have to use national windscreens.

Then I went a did the stupid and typed windscreens I to the search bar. Now I’ve spent the last 1/2 hour reading all about windscreen problems after a replacement.

Am I just being too worried[/u] Regards

Every company has good & bad fitters......

Insist on a genuine windscreen otherwise they'll give you a generic one - not used National, but Autogloass were fine with me, just said it would take them a few more days to source, which I agreed to.

I’ve recently had them change a windscreen on my weekend car, but hopefully Alistair is right.

They are coming back Thursday to re-fit a new, new screen - seal didn’t fit flush in three places and the radio doesn’t work because they damaged the connection when fitting the last new screen! They sent a bloke down from Leeds (I’m in Hertfordshire) last week to inspect and report on their previous poor effort, who confirmed what I had told them on the phone and said it needed another new screen. He also said that he was a sub-contractor and was booked to fit six new screens that day, but they hadn’t delivered the screens to him the previous day so all he could do was inspect mine and one other!

Hope mine was just bad luck and they get it sorted on Thursday 🤞

National did the screen on my d3, used a generic one and it worked a treat.

Will probably insist on a genuine one for fatty due to extra sensors and acoustic properties Remember:- amateurs built the ark

Had a bad experience with Autoglass which may be worth taking into account, i would recommend asking for a master technician even if that just means an experienced fitter and more importantly that there is an assistant because the size makes fitting easier. The first attempt with one guy ended in it being fitted incorrectly and was getting damp in the car. Also check they have all the fittings for the a pillar trim which differ from model to model. That caused an abhorted fitting. You are right to be paranoid, replacement will need managing. Once fitted (properly) you will become even more paranoid about that first stone chip!

Only took three days after a new screen for me, iirc Mad .

Well called National this morning and the guy at the depo said he can order me a proper pilkington price of glass so I guess that’s good.

Yeah that 1st chip always makes you cringe right lol.

To be fair chips are kind of unavoidable what really gets me is the scratches which can’t be removed and when the light catches them that’s all you can concentrate on. Normally from using worn out wiper blades. Regards

Also insist that someone experienced is booked to fit it even if it means taking it their depot.
Are they supplying all new trims too? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Well I guess I was right to be paranoid.

My a pillar trims are not fitted correctly. Went for a test drive and the drivers side popped off at the top. Then notice both sides are loose at the bottom and top and only really holding in the middle.

Went to the drive in centre and the guy said the fitter has used the wrong clips but he can’t fix today as they have run out of clips lol . However I am worried that there’s more to it such as extra sealant I’m wrong places or something. I really hope the screen doesn’t have to come out again.

Also noticed when I got to the drive in centre the fitter had missed the proper line for the interior a pillars trim with the air bad plastic badge. So that had to come out and be re fitted.

I am also going to ask the new fitter tomorrow when he comes to check the scuttle panel out as there is bits that look like they are not stuck to the screen.

Anyone know how I can test the heated screen as obviously it’s not heated screen weather. Auto lights and wipers seem ok so far touch wood. Regards

Switch the heated screen on and hold your palm onto the outside of the windscreen. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
