TDV8 4.4 Oil leak from front directly under engine.

Hi All,

I have just bought my first L322 TDV8 4.4 drives great, no fault codes. However, I had it up on a ramp over the weekend there is a fair bit of oil under the cover at the front, will clean it at the weekend for a better look

, just wondering if anyone has had this before and could give me any pointers before I go down rabbit holes.

Thank you in advance

See if the front of the engine is wet, that’s down where the aux belt and pulleys are. That’s generally a front crankshaft oil seal. If it’s dry then the oil cooler can leak and if it hasn’t been done before it will need doing at some point. Another common area is the two o rings that go on the oil cooler feed pipe.

That should give you some reading to get through, but check what history you have to see what’s been done with those 3 main culprits.

It's worth checking that the steering rack isn't leaking. Mine went in for a supposed diff leak but it turned out to be the rack.

Was that a new rack to sort it, Kevin?

Looking at the pics again, I’d start at the front. Oil blows back as you drive, so if there’s oil at the front, it’s likely to have come from the front.
