Yes, I did buy a lemon

So I just took the TDV8 for a full service and asked them to look at the restricted performance fault and the fluttering noise.

Apparently the nearside exhaust manifold has a few broken studs which is causing the fault.

Also- the front to rear brake pipes are corroded despite never failing an MOT with the last MOT in July last year at 83k miles. It’s on 90k now.

Few other bits and pieces but the manifold has Censored me right off. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Could be worse.

The one I bought turned out to be 1 wheel drive.

Sold it 2 days after buying it.

Could be worse!

We bought a 2003 4.4 V8 around 6 years ago, paid £11500 for it and to date probably spent in excess of £20k on servicing costs and repairs! First big bill 6 months after purchase was £3500 for a full gearbox rebuild, followed closely by new radiator and gearbox oil cooler......

Have been offered £2000 on webuyanycrap.com!!

Just had a quote to do the broken stud. £1200 all in. They said they will have it for three days.

I really can’t be arsed with it. I might stick 12 months MOT on it and sell it on. As I’m such an honest bloke (unlike the fraudster who sold it me) I’ll mention the fault to the prospective buyer so I sell with a clear conscience. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

The manifold repair sounds cheap compared to when one had to be replaced on mine!
It was over £2200 about two years ago.

Might even be less trouble than what replaces it if you sell, could be worth considering fixing and seeing how you get on thereafter? Thumbs Up

Definitely explains your fault anyway Andy, Diesel noise getting louder as you drive etc. Manifold expanding with the heat.

Brake pipes are a common fault as you are probably aware.

I'd just get it fixed, drive it for a bit and then way up your options. It's a lot of money but then again everything is on one of these!

Just shows, it's definitely worth the money having an independent inspection done by the likes of the AA / RAC before purchasing an expensive 2nd hand luxury car. No doubt these 2 faults would have shown up on the inspection.

Hi Paul what was the outcome when you had symptoms of shudder etc was it an injector or wiring loom at fault.
Cheers

Mine was an injector. I used an IID tool measure the injector values which showed an issue with injector number 1. I then tested the loom (easy to do with a multimeter) which was ok so swapped the injector.

Completely cured the issue although I might add that mine started off as a judder in drive which eventually led to a full time miss-fire.

Ah right ok did you measure the reads at standstill idle or at a steady drive. My reads seem ok at standstill but at a steady speed of 30MPH CYL 6 is showing between 8 to 10mm3 fluctuating where as CYL 1 to 5 read 655mm3. Also i get quite a bad shudder in reverse and the shudder is more noticable when driving under light throttle. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

At tick over. Mine all read between -2 - +3, apart from injector number 1 which was +7.

Anything over +3 is bad I believe.

The weird thing is, since it was serviced, it hasn’t faulted once! I saw 30mpg on a run as well. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

A lot of work as all the injectors need to come out to change the inlet manifold/rocker cover... Warranty will require new seals and pipes which run into hundreds more! Just be aware... Thumbs Up
