621..... the magic number?

I made a 300 mile trip yesterday along a mix of A roads and dual carriageways.

As I cruised along at 55 - 60 mph the range on the dashboard slowly ticked up until it hit 621 miles until empty. On the return trip I actually started to use fuel, but appeared to average around 32 mpg.

Today I filled up an the Range until empty immediately shot back up to 621.

I take it that this is the maximum range that the computer can record? How did the engineers who designed the system settle for such a random number for maximum range?

the 621 range is calculated on your average mpg figure ..

so 32 mpg is roughly 7 miles per litre..

100 litre tank x 7 miles per litre equates to approx 700 miles ..not an exact science but you get the idea.. ... - .- -.

Hi Stan

Yes, I know how to calculate range and fuel usage but thanks for your explanation.

What I was asking is why does the range until empty figure of 621 miles not go any higher?

Jim
