Factory tinted windows.

Hi all.

I may be seeing things but, of 4 x L322 I've test driven so far, all their tinted windows seem to have a hazy, misty quality like there is a film of dirt on the glass in conjunction with a slight red tinge and somewhat washed out.

I was under the impression that the factory tints were far superior to aftermarkets and should be like looking through a decent pair of sunglasses?

Maybe it's "Rose tinted" for the passengers Wink

It sounds like aftermarket stuff. It’s pretty easy to tell the difference; from the outside, you can clearly see the heated rear window elements, along with a funny “halo”, where the dot matrix print is around the edge of some of the windows.

Do you mean the rear side windows? They are laminated and suffer with a hazy/off colour appearance unlike the rest of the windows which are toughened. JLR have had this issue since the 2009-11 inception of double glazing... Rolling Eyes

Correct, the rear passenger side windows. If JLR have had this issue since 2009, why the hell have they not sorted it out? I mean, it doubt its the most difficult of problems to overcome if you design and build cars for a living Wink

Does it apply to 2012 cars as well, the hazy double glazing to the rear?

Thanks.

My newly purchased 2011 suffers from this. Is it temperature related, I don't always notice the syndrome? It is only on the rear passenger glass. 2011 Range Rover Autobiography

It’s the contrast between the rear door and third window that’s noticeable. I’ve added an extra layer of tint and it pretty much cures it Thumbs Up

I had a test drive of a 2012 Westminster and the windows were perfect!

No nasty tinge but just like a good pair of sunglasses Smile

We’re the windows a combination of laminated and toughened glass as per the ‘405?

I've no idea of the construction or layering involved in the glazing but, they were absolutely crystal clear with a neutral tint and the view looking out was perfect.

It also had a super smooth gearbox so it's at th etop of the list to buy so far Smile

All FFRR’s since the 2009 digital dash facelift have double glazed side glass... So, all factory tints in this last TEN yr period suffer with this rear side window phenomenon...👍
