The turbo drain mod in my view is essential. Oil builds up in the second turbo that only spins up above 2500 rpm which in normal driving can be never! Teh first time you overtake someone or give the beans the scene behind will be something out of a James Bond movie. The smoke can be so dense as to be dangerous. The drain mod gives an independent line back to the sump for each turbo stopping the back pressure building up and oil leaking into the second turbo. Not all 4.4's do it mine definitely did, if you drive round continually like a boy racer no problem, do sedate driving for 10 or 15 miles and then open it up oh dear, not good.

They don't all suffer with this issue though - Mine hasn't had the mod done and never has any problem with smoke. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE |

The turbo drain mod and the oil leaks in the V are different items. The drain mod provides an extra drain direct to the sump to overcome oil build-up in the inlet tract if the turbo isn't exercised regularly and the oil leak is from the oil cooler gaskets and/or the O-ring at the back of the oil cooler. |
