8 speed has disappointed me TBH.

When test driving 4.4TDV8s my experience was similar. Two drove like tractors compared to my 3.6 TDV8 Sport but the one I finally bought confirmed the 8 speed box is a peach and the cabin is a place of hushed comfort until you give it the beans and it sounds better than my old 4.2SC Sport.

Personally I wouldn't be too bothered by the number of owners, its easy enough to rack it up quite quickly on premium cars - its not uncommon for Ferraris and Porsche's to have large numbers of owners - it doesn't necessarily mean its a problem car (a 3 year old Fiesta with 4 owners I would be asking questions!)

Mine is always better when it’s had a decent run.

I went through the same process very recently, drove a couple of 4.4s and ended up picking up a late 59 plate 3.6 which was 4 owners. I was concerned about number owners but last keeper was 5 years and had receipts as well as service book, it drove really well and the interior was close to mint. Given the 3.6 was £2-3k cheaper than any of the 4.4s I'd considered I took the plunge and 3 weeks in am cautiously happy! The additional couple of grand might come in handy with keeping her operational at some point.

Just my own personal experience after almost two years in a 4.4 tdv8 after 2 years in a 3.6. The 3.6 was lovely and i would have another in a heartbeat BUT the 4.4 is much more refined on motorway journeys thanks to the 8 speed box and is not even turning over at 1500 revs at motorway speed which is a big contrast to the 3.6. The digital clocks on the 4.4 are also a huge improvement over the 3.6 and give the L322 a much more upto date look. I have never noticed the 8 speed box re changing gears ( its so silky you wouldn't know it had changed gears except for the rev counter) so I'm very surprised to hear people mention that as an issue. The adaptive suspension was quite noticable and made cornering briskly a bit more confidence inspiring.

You can get a reasonable 4.4 for 12k - it'll be 100k miles give or take. £20k at this moment is top top end, very low miles one owner, autobiography spec etc. . I am going back nearly a year now so prices have changed a bit but the differential is still there and I was looking at sub 70k miles 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
