Wing mirror damaged. Need advice.

2007 3.6 TDV8

I think I have found the right glass (chromatic dimming/heated). However, I am looking for the replacment plastics. Duckworth have quoted for an entire new mirror assembly, whereas to me it looks like I could simply change some plastic covers. Lots of different types out there, half, full, painted, primed, convex, stick on with glue....

Can anyone help out - I just want to get a replacement OEM (or after market) that replaces the damaged cover and not one which sticks on over the top of the damage. I have the puddle lights too.

Thanks
mark

Thanks Bushy, they all seem to be stick over the top of the old covers using 3m tape and silicon. I am looking for the replacement OEM covers that replace the broken ones, not the ones that glue over the top of the old ones.

Hi Stan,
that is a possible "last option" yes. Or a new unit is £370 + VAT from Duckworth.

It seems ridiculous to not be able to replace a plastic cover that is as expensive to make as a yoghurt pot but have to replace motors, electronics, and all the rest of the gubbins.

It's only the plastic and the glass that is damaged. Should be less than £100 for the plastic, and less than £200 for the glass and a quick thirty minutes with a trim-tool, not 2 hours with spanners and door cars off.

Another alternative is to use the stick on trims and just hide the damaged plastic cover, but that doesn't sit well with me.

Hi Dolph, yes, I watched that too, but it is 2010 onwards. The 2007 is different.

Thanks Weegie.

So far the conclusion seems to be :

1) Glass, no issues. I have the new LR part for this.
2) Case: Either fit something over the top of the original, or get an entire new mirror.

Mark

I know.. happily driving along in the sunshine, along comes a delivery driver, whack, £500 worse off, and a bit of an inconvenience too. Such is life, at least it wasn't worse.

LOL Smile Of course. However, I want to try and expedite this along, and hence trying to find parts and prices to help the delivery company make a decision about whether they want to go via insurance, or not.
