Battery drain - unexplained!

My 2009 Westminster has an odd habbit. The battery goes flat but *ONLY* when it is at race circuits. So far Donington managed to flatten it so much that the key wouldn't even turn, and Snetterton lit up the dash with errors and the engine turned once. I thought they had sorted transponder issues out on these vehicles?

Any idea on what I can do to stop this odd behaviour (and parking miles away is out - I am media and need all my gear close/with me and it weighs a ton!)

Thanks for any suggestions ..... Land Rover Addict

do you leave the doors/tailgate open with the interior lights on?

if so then you can switch them all off by pressing the front centre light switch on for 5 seconds until the lights flash..

A Trap

And replace all the interior light bulbs for LED’s, if any stay on there’s a lot less current draw

Bow down Bow down very handy tip Stan, i was wondering how to switch the bloody lights as they all came on whenever any door opened.

btw, is there a way to stop the AC to turn on eveytime when ignition is switched on.

thanks

i think if you switch the AC off a couple of times it will 'learn' that setting...

Nope, vehicle is parked up for 3-4 hours with the boot being opened a few times to offload gear at lunch time. This is most baffling. It sits at work for 9 hours and doesn't have this problem.... It is specifically at race tracks.... (although it didn't happen at Brands Hatch 2 weeks ago) Land Rover Addict

It MAY be something to do with the radio frequencies being used at the tracks and the transmissions are triggering something in the ECUs which is activating some of the systems, which are in turn draining the battery.

Not quite the same but sometimes when transmitting on certain frequencies on HF (Radio Amateur) I would trigger the unlocking on the FFRR parked next to the house. Although the unlocking is not HF, proximity to a powerful source can cause it.

Just a thought. John

If you measured the current drain at home and then compared with the same at a circuit, it would start to narrow things down.

You might then be able to disable the remote receiver and see if the behaviour changes? Much like this similar issue on a P38. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Does it have an FBH? Wonder if that's being triggered by telelmetry comms? Formerly happymadison1978

It does have an FBH..... Hmmnmm. Obviously at the weekend it would have blown cold as it was more that 16 degrees outside. I may have to stick a recording device in it.... Land Rover Addict

EMC

Obviously EMC approvals is not on most car manufacturers to do list, this has to be a RF problem. I'd start by looking at all receivers and subsequent ecu activity. Bloody nightmare battery drain on these FFRR and it only happens when you least need it! In the winter I do not leave the FF idle for very long!

Cheers - I've just been told by another photographer that 2 D3's did the same as mine parked in the same area. So seems it is a Land Rover thing!!! Land Rover Addict

It did it again at Croft Circuit .... asked nicely for help and within a few minutes we had a generator and truck battery charger hooked up.

Nothing.

Driver walks past and says "I've got something that will help" .... comes back with what looks like a phone battery pack. Plugs in the crocodile clips, attaches them to the battery and asks me to try it now ...

Bloody thing burst into life. Obviously I have now bought one of these magic boxes!!
