:censored: up with v5 and can’t tax the car

Long story short. Brought car, for some reason the green slip part wasn’t there. Previous owner just gave me the v5 to send off ( family friend ) told the wife v5 needed sending off but we haven’t got the green slip to keep but that doesn’t matter cos we can tax it online. Car was taxed for a year by previous owner. Went to work the next day and when I got home the wife had sent v5 in post without us taxing it.

Sad to inform you when I sent our V5 off (did tax it first though) it took roughly four weeks for the new V5 to arrive, as soon as it arrived I changed the plate online (had to wait for the new V5 for plate transfer) and the new plate V5 arrived in three days Shocked

Funny eh? When it’s free it takes forever, when you have to pay its very fast indeed! David

Panic over. 5 mins after posting this the wife remembered to tell me the v5 came yesterday so she taxed it straight away. Literally took a week Thumbs Up

Still waiting for mine, been about 4 weeks now. Although I have bought a new car I also can't tax it or declare it SORN until I get a V5.I also can't insure new car until reg is transferred. I'm sure it will happen sometime. I've got the green slip but it doesn't work online and when I rang they said wait until I get V5. Geoff

To be honest that’s why I posted. I’d heard that the dvla was taking ages and there was a back log. Must be down to post in certain areas then. Literally only sent ours a week ago maybe even less.

For future reference you can speed the process as you can notify the change of keeper on line now.

Previous owner sent paperwork to DVLA, once its been sent you can no longer do it online - didn't realise. Geoff

The back log is about money. Car tax being non tranferable means unless you buy and sell a car at the end of a month the DVLA gets paid twice for that month. Thieves ! 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal
