United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

Well this is turning out to be a bloomin knightmare lol

All because the bloomin spring broke on the cap

So it seems you cant just replace the spring and cap because the pin that goes through the cap is peeled over at the ends so it wont knock out

you cant buy just one socket from land rover you have to buy the loom which comes with both sockets... yeah thats expensive

You cant take out the old wire and buy a new housing because the wires look glued / moulded / silliconed in? Or maybe someone has been there before and did this?? Anyone know if you can actually remove the wires from the rear of the sockets?

And then i thought ok.. ill remove them then seen as i dont tow, oh well if i do that then the grommett where the wires push through will be left with a hole in it and the local dealer cant find a new grommet listed to replace it

really why so difficult for such a stupid problem??? Regards

If you don't intend to tow and the flapping cap is annoying you, put a bead of silicone sealant round it and stick it like that. Don't use glue in case you or someone else finds a need to tow with it.

A fine bead will be easily concealed. John

If you are really that bothered I have a spare pre-wired 7-pin socket that you can have for the price of the postage.

All you would have to do is reconnect it where the existing one connects or splice it to the existing cable in the boot. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Or remove it completely and gorilla tape the hole instead of the grommet. It’s tucked well out of the way so should be minimal spray that gets there

Looks like you could carefully file away the peened over end of the pin until it is flush with the plastic then the pin will push out. Do the same with a cheap new socket to get the new spring, then replace spring and cover on old socket and use a small bolt and nut in place of the pin.

SO im getting more confused everytime i look at this car lol,

I was toying with the idea of replacing both the towing sockets for new ones,

so naturally as one does, i was searching the internet for prices and looking at pictures etc, then tonight i looked inside the boot and found that my wiring loom looks slightly different to the rest of the towing electrics ive seen on the net even genuine ones for instance if you search for l322 towing electrics / sockets most of these come with a loom and like 3-4 plugs and the earthing wires etc,

Well it looks like i can just unplug this big grey delphi socket and pull my sockets straight out which is fine but it begs the question what do i buy to replace it???

 Regards

Yours is 100% standard. Mine has the exact same plug. Replace it with a Genuine 13pin one and then you can top up the battery with an adaptor and ctek. Handy to have Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
