So coming up on month 2 of FFRR ownership and it's been nothing but trouble, I'm seriously considering getting rid of it.

2009 Westminster, bought with 51k on the clock at the start of March now showing 54k and change. Full LR history and 3 year warranty. 1 previous owner. Beginning to understand why it came through an auction

Day 1 it broke down with a blocked fuel filter. Got going again.
Day 8 it broke down again, this time terminally and had to be recovered. Fuel filter replaced, seemed OK till today.

Cruising home from work on dual carriageway and - bong! - "Engine System Fault", speed died away to a crawl and I had to pull onto the verge to get out the way of the traffic. Stopped, restarted, no sign of any issue so got back into traffic and got home. It's now sitting in the drive and I'm seriously off with it.

I've a feeling its the battery - I've had a few bongs on startup with "Special Programs Off" over the last week or so. I'll measure the voltages tomorrow on it and see if it looks bad.

But seriously - 8 weeks of ownership and I'd gladly push it off a cliff right now. I'm so sick of it, I just want a car that works. This is unlike anything I've ever experienced with a car. I think I'll go back to my Audi that I traded to buy this. I see it's still for sale in Autotrader.

Blocked fuel filter and weak battery is hardly down to the Fatty. Last owner's lack of proper maintainance is catching up with you.
New filter, new battery and possibly top intercooler hoses and itll be fine  2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

With a 3 year warranty just buckle up and enjoy the breakdowns in comfort. Put some choccy biscuits in the glovebox. It’ll be all good after this teething phase.

I'll ring the warranty co tomorrow and get it booked in somewhere - they should foot the bill for everything but a battery I reckon. Just a total PITA getting work without it, that's my major issue. Attached the meter to the battery, here's the results

Before startup, having sat in the drive for 18 hours - 12.15V

Started up, voltage climbed for a minute or so, then settled around 14.7-14.8V.

Switched on much as I could think of: lights, heater, CD, heated seats all round, demisters front and back: 11.7 - 11.8V

Everything off, back up to 14.7V after a minute or so.

Switched off, after a minute or so voltage dropped to 12.6V

Also checked top hoses, don't see any cracks or splits

Do those voltage seem OK? Anything else I can do with a meter to check? I don't have a IID tool so cant check for any codes. I think I'll just get it into a garage and get them to take a look once I hear back from the warranty co.

Put the details into WBAC just out of curiosity. They are having a laugh - £7.5k. Have hired a car in meantime to get to work Thursday. If it were me I’d get codes read to see if anything pops up.
Then clear them and if it happens again get them read again to narrow it down.

Had a similar few days with a SC Sport last year. Flogged it back to the garage with my pants well and truly down but was happy to get rid.

However, on taking a closer look at the top intercooler hoses, and removing the N/S one, I think I've found a (if not, the) culprit:

Yep, thats your issue. Also your battery voltage is on the low side. Its charging ok but a good battery will hold a bit nearer 13+ volts.

Cheers for the voltage info - probably explains the odd ding + "Special Programs Off" I've been getting on startup. Will get a new battery in soon. So who is a clever b r then Mikey ? Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Unless you have an AGM battery I can personally recommend an Exide premium EA1000. Very good battery.
