I thought when I tested the rear socket in my 2011 L322 last year that I decided it turned itself off once the car was locked, or very soon thereafter?

Everything shuts down including the 12v socket tried to use an air pump and unless I kept the car running it would shut off. |

Install a 2nd battery in the right side below the floor, where detachable hitch lives, change your engine battery terminals to quick release, then in future simply detach neg terminal on starter batt and run anything off the aux batt for ages, confidant when you re connect the starter batt it's still fully charged. Car is never totally with out power so no settings, are lost. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

My boot socket stays live all the time (2006 MY 4.2) I use it to connect the C-Tek when I'm away.

On the later cars the sockets shut off. I made the mistake of spending best part of £300 on a coolbox with a lead that turns it off if battery gets low, but can’t use it as I wanted.

There are some permanent live connections in the rear fuse box which you could use. You should easily be able to rewire the boot 12v socket to use one of them. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

don't know which cool box you have but the halfords 40 litre cool box takes 3.5amps and a good, fully charged range rover battery would run that for about 15 hours and still only be half discharged.

Agree with the above but to be absolutely sure you can still get into the car if the second battery voltage does happen to drop to a level the electric locking won't work, check the manual key locking / unlocking still works on the drivers door. |
