More insurance woes.....

My niece's boyfriend has just moved to Leeds and is having problems with the insurance on his Sport AB and his 5.0 XKR. He's 29 and when he informed Admiral of the move from Flitwick to Leeds his premium has tripled to £4.5k for both.

He's ringing around some companies this morning and I wondered if you guys had any suggestions ? He's a real petrolhead having just bought back his XKR form the guy he sold it to last year. The prospect of selling it again nearly had him in tears. Current: FF Westminster money pit

Run through the comparison sites, I tend to find Confused is the cheapest more often than not, but it'll depend on your circumstances, try at least 2, but preferably as many as you can stomach.

I'm a similar age, and would pay £5-600 for one of them, so he's definitely paying over the odds, providing he doesn't keep bumping into things.

I wouldn't waste time ringing around, do a comparison, you'll find the same 2 or 3 companies like his risk profile the best, focus the attention there. Also, don't try and insure them together, multicar is almost always useless.

Try A-plan as they're site sponsors, correct phone number on here somewhere.

PM me if you need any more specific help

I’ve found milticar policies are hit and miss. Had some cheap deals in the past but sometimes the price is nowhere near.

It's always worth giving forum sponsor A plan a ring at their Thatcham office although they would probably insist on having trackers fitted. Cheers Ian

I have exactly the same issue as a similar age owner in central London with a 5.0 S/C L322.

Prices are absolutely ludicrous compared to being just outside London, and twice what it would be if insured at my main address in Poole. But as the vehicle actually spends most of it's time in London during the week, I wanted to make sure it was covered and insure it on the London address.

Definitely worth using the comparison websites, I find MoneySupermarket the best usually, and playing with all the options of mileage, occupation, additional drivers, etc. There are quite often jumps in price at certain mileages, having additional older drivers named on the policy can sometimes make a difference, and exactly how you describe your occupation can change the price too!

Glad you've now found success and a more reasonable price.
