That’s exactly what you need to do, my man did it with a soldering iron, less mess, had to cut a fair old chunk to get it to fit |

Try to make sure what you cut out is reversible to some extent, so you can always reinstate if you want to take the new unit with you to another car. .

I’ve done some research and found that there should be a power amplifier somewhere (I’ve got the 3 speakers in the front door and one in the centre of the dash) but can’t find any information on it!

In your cubby photo, as displayed on the forum, middle right, wires bundle must be going to something - an amp ? (That is where it usually lives for cars with all the gubbins in the cubby e.g. not HSE)

If you have a middle speaker, there is an amp hidden in the rear left cubby, it’s out of sight down in the recess |

I’ve used the connects2 kit to connect the stereo. There’s one plug that has nowhere else to plug into that was plugged into the display part of the old stereo.

Could this be the problem? Is it easy to get out and check over? On the old stereo it never had sound (apart from twice it came on for 5 secs) and the display never worked at all. |

Could be , I had an early HSE, and the centre speaker has an ampbecause the standard system is only 4 channel. I found the amp rear left cubby, get a torch & have a look , there will be one there. Notorious for getting wet and damaging the connectors |

Would an after market amp work?
