High Mileage 2010 - 2012 4.4 diesel L322

So I come back from holiday today to pick up the truck from the garage. It was left with my trusted mechanic to fix a coolant leak (LPG hoses) and the parasitic battery drain (long standing and becoming a pain to live with) but on the way home the HD inactive and adaptive suspension warning came on and had no steering wheel buttons including the horn! I am now getting fed up of fixing this old range rover and wondering what to get next. I have a hankering for the 2010-2012 4.4 diesel but funds would dictate a car with 100,000 miles plus on the clock. Is this daft? I am I just buying into another set of problems or should I call it quits and look for something less capable but more reliable?

The last of the L322 and the best - jump in!

The 4.4 with the 8-speed is sublime, pulls like an Intercity 125. No major issues other than normal maintenance. DPF is something that needs a 50mph run every two or three weeks. There is also the turbo drain mod you'll need to look for, plus all the usual L322 stuff like rusty arches.

There are some not too major issues with this engine like oil cooler seals, and alternator, also starter, these normally go at around 70-80k miles so I say a well maintained 100k car is pretty sorted , just run in really.

2010-12 Vogues over 100k are coming in really cheap now, ideally go for an Vogue SE or AB with surround cameras and extras like adaptive cruise. Deployable steps can be added easily and relatively cheaply and will impress mates no end.

Obvs you'll want FSH and as few owners as you can. Forum cars are usually very well looked after.

Also have a look for Nicksaab's post(s) when he went from an early 322 to a 2011 (or 2012).

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at these posts and as you say the 4.4 diesel seems to be the way to go.

I wasn't planning another car purchase right now as the other half has just got a BMW X3 last December. The RR will go back to the garage tomorrow and we'll have to leave it with them while we head back to Arran in the X3.

As always like you I have been looking at best spec VSE, AB or Westminster. The 2003 4.4 is an autobiography now with 197,000 miles,3rd autobox, new radiator, starter, many coil packs, air bags and lots of other parts I've forgot. Actually wondering what % of the car is original? With it having LPG it gets an equivalent 28 - 35 MPG and £300/Yr road tax so great economy.

At the minute I hope the truck can keep going to allow me time to find the right replacement. I have come across a VSE with 130.000 miles and 2 owners that looks tempting but initially was hoping for a vehicle with a mileage under 60,000. I may give them a call and ask what problems it has had and what has been replaced on the car.

Don't get too hung up on mileage as the FFRR just soaks up long distances, as you will know and especially the 4.4TDV8.

Buy on condition and service history.

I bought my Westie 3 years ago when it had 70k miles on it and it's now on 135k and to be honest, it's been very reliable on the whole.

Good luck Thumbs Up 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Thanks DrRob.

I've asked for the survey details on the reliability of the 2010 - 2012 cars to help me with my quest on finding the right one to buy.

Hi, I bought my 2011/12 with 98k two years ago had a few things to fix which I did most my self now done 120k and still very happy with it, I tow a big tin tent with no trouble and very good fuel consumption. mine did not have a good service history, so set about doing all the oils, I don't really trust main dealers to do the service work, a good independent and speaking to the man with spanners is a better way to go.
the 2011/12 model is well-sorted jump in?
