Carbon monoxide/ hydrocarbon failure on the 4.2

Hi all...
Still hunting and a couple of 4.2 s ive shortlisted I checked the mot history on and they came back (historically) with carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon fails (picture below). What is the cause of this and is it common? I’ve seen on at least 3 I looked at? Cheers

On all the cars I've had fail this way, the problem has been a worn or completely unserviceable o2 sensor.

Hope that helps Thumbs Up
