I certainly wouldn't remove the sump plug, that won't end well ! I had a similar issue with my SDV8 which has an oil suction tube. Bought a 4 litre Silverline suction pump which worked perfectly and took less than five minutes. Can't remember if it was from Amazon or ebay. So first thing is to check if you have a suction tube on the 5.0. If so, this is definately the way to go. |

Lidl are currently selling oil drain kits which have a small electric pump to suck oil out of the engine. A lot easier than crawling under the car and draining the sump! They might have a few left, as they were on sale a week or two ago - 3 year warranty etc. |

Interestingly I foolishly checked my level after a suspected oil leak, and it was low, so I stopped it up, now it's on maximum and I get this smell of burning oil in the cabin.. i wonder if i over filled it and now its causing this burning smell....? |

errrmm 2 questions - why wouldn't removing the sump plug end well ? - never had problems with numerous other cars but admittedly never tried on the SDV8 - so what's the problem? also Wheres the drain tube on a SDV8 or is it obvious? thanks |

As I understand it, Carlos only wanted to remove a small amount of oil as the dipstick showed over filled. Getting the sump plug back in would be tricky to say the least ! |

Ooops, missed the question re suction tube. Its at the front left hand side of the engine with a small black plastic cap which screws off in about one revolution. Easy to get to and fairly obvious |

Is oil leaking over the back of the engine onto the exhaust cross-over pipe? The o-rings on a pipe fitting at the back of the oil cooler housing and the oil cooler gaskets are prone to leaking due to not withstanding the heat. |
