Central heating plumbing debate? | |
When the weather warms up a little and stays warm I'm going to redo the radiator piping. I've currently got a mixture of feed and return and a dodgy version of a single pipe system.
Three bedrooms and bathroom are single pipe and shockingly cold rooms, the rads get teppid at best.
Living room, dining room kitchen and hall are now twin pipe system but 15mm.
When I bought the house it had twin and single system in but only the hall rad was on a feed and return. Every other room was on a single pipe circuit but not an IN and OUT, they were tee'd off and back into ring.
I did a quick fix on the living room, kitchen and dining room by using the hallway feed and return which bizzarly runs within feet of the other rads on route to the hall so no idea why it hadn't been done.
Anyway to the debate.
I want to just re do everything under the floor with 22mm plastic pipe / speedfits, reduce to 15mm and connect to the existing copper legs of the rads in a simple ladder run type arrangment using the valves to balance the system.
My Dad keeps argueing that the first rad on the feed should be last on the return circuit pretty much doubling the amount of pipe.
My arguement is it won't be much different as the rad stats and balancing will even it out and although his logic is understandable I don't think the extra cost will see drastic benefit.
Googling it seams to bring back diagrams of my version but he's still adament that he's right.
Any plumbers care to share their 2p?
