TDV6 & SDV6 Petition

Hi all

Not sure how many on the Full Fat site run 6 cylinder diesels, but owners of L494’s have had problems with crankshafts snapping.

A petition asking JLR to recognise the problem as a design fault has been started and can be found here

https://www.thepetitionsite.com/en-gb/535/...k-failure/

Jim

It’ll be interesting to see what continued publicity seeking about the (currently unknown) failure rate of SDV6/TDV6’s will do to the prospect of the trade giving a viable trade in vaulation for these cars.

I’d be equally interested to know how many people who’ve signed this petition so far have any direct experience of the problem, or have simply “heard about it” happening to other people. I can think of at least one person who was sufficiently worried by all of the speculation that he’d heard (but not experienced) to trade his near new TDV6 Fatty in for a different make.

I think that's the point Red Merle is making - no one is disputing the problem exists, but most of the people who are concerned about it, haven't actually experienced it.

My point exactly Alistair Thumbs Up

Here’s a quote from a member on the RRS forum that illustrates the problem:

“I felt that this needs maximum exposure & would encourage everyone to sign up, and publicise this petition elsewhere.”

The downsides of this situation is it makes it near impossible to judge the genuine numbers of failures, it’s ruinous of the car’s reputation (and likely trade value) and prone to making LR more defensive and less understanding about genuine warranty claims if they are bogged down with complaints from people with working engines.

LR (China) has issued a safety recall for the engines.

I completely agree - IMHO much more effective for people who have had actual failures to get together for some kind of class action type claim against JLR

Google translate seems to do a good job but now the page is no longer available.

Something wrong with the earlier link. This one worked a few moments ago.

For the Korean recall LR was blaming poor quality fuel.

Tried the link GraemeS although again it was in Chinese. Thanks for trying.

Balanced responses from Alistair and Red Merle Thumbs Up

Noted that one of the linked concerns suggests an owner [non L405... again] being left 'high and dry' by LR after an alleged failure.

As previously, this post, whilst of interest, doesn't concern me at all. That's because once again little to no evidence is being offered of the L405 3.0 Diesel engine variant failing and/ or L405 owners being left 'high and dry' by LR in that eventuality.

Any who are genuinely concerned about their 3.0 L405 could do worse than scour this forum for a balanced view about L405 engine failure (not about the Discovey, not about the RRS... about the L405).

If this is such a big issue for the L405 3.0 diesel, why are the overwhelming majority of concerns being offered up on this forum not about the L405 but about other LR models (it's 2019 now and the L405 has been on the go since 2012)?

The problem hasn’t exactly been helped by LR recognising / advising that there is an issue with the V6 Diesel in the L405 within their own Bulletin to dealers. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
